Responsibilities: This position is responsible for advising and guiding medical students engaged in laboratory and clinical research. Responsible for the development of research guidance and policies for students in accordance with federal, state, and university expectations and regulations. Collaborates with faculty to direct students conducting research and scholarly activities. This position expands the research infrastructure for the college. This position supports and expands research opportunities for students and faculty research mentors. Prepares students to meet short-term and long-term academic goals.
This position advises, supports, tracks, and facilitates medical student research under the direction of the Assistant Dean for Graduate Programs and Medical Student Research (ADGPMSR). Develops and implements programmatic goals and objectives to create new research programs that expand current research opportunities while supporting initiatives set forth by the Assistant Dean. Evaluates and refines current research policies and develops new policies and guidance documents for both faculty and students. Responsible for conducting initial research advising appointments for first- and second-year medical students at main campus. Provides guidance to students regarding research opportunities, developing relationships
with faculty mentors, understanding and interpreting policies and procedures, and research approval processes (to include compliance). Assists students with required trainings to prepare for engagement in research.
Collects, analyzes, and produces reports regarding students’ level of participation in research across campuses. Supports the Assistant Dean in coordinating, planning, evaluation, and implementation of all new student research education initiatives in the College of Medicine (CoM). Analyzes and prepares various reports to college leadership as well as external accrediting organizations.
Collaborates and communicates directly with research mentors within the College and at institutions affiliated with our reginal campus staff and Deans. Maintains a working knowledge of the research expertise for individuals at CoM collaborating with faculty and principal investigators.
Responsible for planning, organizing, and executing the annual student summer research poster session and student research focused Grand Rounds events for the college. Updates and maintains medical student research website including the local research opportunities database.
Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and six years of experience related to academic and/or student services; or a high school diploma or equivalent and ten years of experience. (Note: a combination of post-high school education and experience equal to ten years.) Must have a valid Florida or Georgia Driver's License, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
