The Lab Supervisor will support an amazing team of research professionals focused on understanding platelet biology in a dynamic academic environment. This individual will be our 'go-to' person for all things lab related. We encourage personal and professional growth in this position, including research and publication opportunities.
This Research Lab Supervisor will be responsible for:
Supervises day‑to‑day operations of a research laboratory.
Coordinating with postdocs and technicians to promote an efficient research environment.
Perform regular inventory of lab common stocks, analyzing lab workflows to arrange materials and resources, developing proficiency in the maintenance and troubleshooting of critical lab instrumentation.
Reviews and authorizes supply and equipment orders and monitors and records receipt. Oversees maintenance of facility equipment.
Monitors and ensures compliance with hospital and governmental regulations regarding safety and the use and disposal of radioactive materials, chemicals and other hazardous materials.
Supervises and monitors work of Research Technicians and works with them to ensure proper preparation and storage of all laboratory materials.
Provides input to hiring and performance evaluations.
Reviews orders for research animals and monitors and verifies receipt. Updates and renews active research protocols and prepares and files new protocols in conformance with hospital, and regulatory agencies requirements.
Monitors and maintains accuracy and completeness of databases.
Acts as a liaison for the lab to other labs and departments, outside vendors, funding agencies, industry and other external contacts.
Stays abreast of regulations and implements changes in the lab to adhere to new Hospital and federal mandates.
To qualify, you must have:
Bachelor's degree with a background in Biological Science AND a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience OR Master of Science AND 4 yrs. of relevant work experience.
Very strong interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate with a wide array of personalities.
Experience working in a research lab, doing experiments, and culturing primary cells.
Strong skills in organization, time management, and team coordination.
Initiative and independence in identifying and addressing short and long-term opportunities for optimization of lab processes.
Analytical skills to resolve complex problems
The ability to enforce policies, conduct performance reviews, and counsel employees with performance and/or disciplinary issues.
