What Research Opportunities Mean to Patients and Families Facing an Alzheimer’s Disease Diagnosis - Creating a Different Kind of Legacy

Judy Johanson and her husband Steve were faced with the unthinkable when Steve was diagnosed with early onset Alzheimer’s disease (AD) at 59. Facing this horrific diagnosis head on, Steve went on to participate in research and become a tireless advocate for research funding and study participation. AD affects the entire family, and the disease eventually took Steve’s life. Judy went on to advance Steve’s legacy through advocacy as a Board Member for the Alzheimer’s Association/ New England Region Chapter and then as a staff member for the Massachusetts Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center where she works currently as a research study coordinator and a participant advocate. Judy will cover the lessons learned from the frontlines battling Alzheimer’s disease as a caregiver and the hope and dignity research opportunities provided to her husband and family as he battled this deadly brain disease. 904
