Title / Topic: Ethical Issues in Clinical Trials and Healthcare – Part 2 of 3

 Speaker: Art Gertel, PhD

 After 35 years serving in the pharmaceutical and related industries, Dr. Gertel established an independent and collaborative strategic regulatory consultancy - applying drug/device development, medical writing, bioethics, Data Safety Monitoring Board (DSMB), and IRB expertise. Dr. Gertel brings over forty years of increasingly senior-level positions in the Pharmaceutical industry and leadership roles in professional organizations, as well as with collaborative efforts focusing on the improvement of the research, development, review, and approval of new therapeutics, vaccines, and diagnostics. He is a Registered Agent to US FDA.

He has also been active in the arena of bioethics in the context of clinical trials, teaching seminars on the topic in academia, industry, and for professional associations. Thus, he brings an important perspective in the context of ensuring protection of study participants.

 Learning Objective(s):

1. Better understand the foundations of human protections and how they have evolved over time.

2. Assess how these protections may be applied in various contexts.

3. Appreciate that there are often alternative actions and decisions that may not be readily apparent at first consideration. This will demonstrate the importance of preparing oneself to think critically and creatively to better understand unintended consequences of one’s actions.

Continuing Education (CE): SOCRA members may claim 1.0 CE credit per hour of education. SOCRA members will receive Certificates of Attendance two weeks after the completion of the event.

All SOCRA members and non-SOCRA members are welcomed.

Please share this announcement with your colleagues.
