Description: The Boston keratoprosthesis is now widely accepted as an alternative to traditional corneal transplantation for severe corneal pathologies. In this talk, we will review the design of the keratoprosthesis, method of assembly and surgical implantation, indications, limitations, and complications of the procedure. We will attempt to design the ideal corneal carrier for the device as a clinical trial.
Objectives:
- Understand the design of the Boston keratoprosthesis
- Explore the indications and limitations of the device
- Design the ideal study and cornea carrier for the keratoprosthesis
