Presenter: Gina Larsen, MA, CIP
Deputy Assistant Directory & Senior Advisor
Yale Human Research Protection Program
Learning Objectives:
• Per federal research regulations, children are considered a vulnerable population because they lack the autonomy and decision-making capacity to understand and assume the risks of research. However, the importance of child assent during research activities is paramount to the ethical conduct of research. For this SOCRA session, we will discuss the policies and nuances surrounding assent and parental permission requirements for pediatric research subjects. The session will provide a general overview of FDA regulatory requirements for assent and parental permission and will also provide guidance and creative pathways to successfully conduct assent with children.
Credits Available: 1 CE credit for SOCRA members
