Speaker:     Gary Goodman, MD - Medical Oncologist
                       Senior Investigator - Swedish Cancer Medical Center Cancer Institute Principal Investigator - Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Institute

Dr. Goodman has a longstanding record of clinical research in the areas of cancer prevention with a focus on lung cancer, participant recruitment, study design, interpretation of results, and publishing reports. His research interests lie in cancer prevention and biomarker development. Dr. Goodman originated the multicenter Carotene and Retinol Efficacy Trial (CARET) lung cancer prevention trial and serves as a co-investigator of the large CARET biorepository. He is an active member of SWOG, organized the Pacific Cancer Research Consortium, and serves as the communicating PI for the Prostate Cancer Research Program (PCRC).


Learning Objectives:

  1. To have a basic understanding of how the immune system functions
  2. To understand why the immune system does not function against cancer
  3. To understand how the new immune modifying agents function
